Tainted Meat: Another Reason to Hate Walmart ...
Eric Shapiro - NY Press - 8/21/1010
There are plenty of reasons to hate Walmart. It treats its employees like shit, drives local retailers out of business and gives you hell when you want to return something (at least that’s what happened to me when I tried to get a refund on a defective DVD), your friends like to talk about how horrible it is even though they shop there. Now here’s another: CNN reports that 380,000 pounds of Walmart’s sandwich filler was recalled based on the suspicion that it contained Listeria, a potentially deadly bacteria. As if potentially deadly fat and cholesterol weren’t enough!
Don’t worry though. As long as you don’t eat any Walmart sandwiches for a while you should be OK. Or not. A spokesman for Tyson Foods, the company that delivered the tainted meat, most of it has already been eaten. So far no one’s reported any serious illness, but I’d stay away from Walmart meat section for a while. Like maybe forever.
Just when Americans thought it was safe to eat eggs without getting salmonella, they find out that their favorite bloated chain store could give them more than just a little bellyache. Is McDonald’s still safe? To think our most well known corporations don’t have our best interests at heart!
